Wildlife is abundant at Wind Cave
Wind Cave National Park is one of the oldest national parks, and the first national park to protect a cave! It is home to a rolling prairie ecosystem with abundant wildlife species such as bison, elk, prairie dogs, coyotes, badgers, and burrowing owls. Beneath the prairie is another world, with one of the world’s longest caves! Named for barometric winds, Wind Cave is over 150 miles of complex passages and is known for its unique boxwork formations. We have been partners with Wind Cave since 1946, and the visitor center is our headquarters and main office.
