Agate Fossil Beds National Monument is a National Park Service site between Harrison and Scottsbluff in the Nebraska panhandle. The monument is the country’s best source of Miocene mammal fossils. But it’s two monuments in one, because it also features the James H. Cook Collection of Lakota Artifacts — a history buff’s dream site with gifts from Chief Red Cloud and others to their friend Cook. Including American Horse’s war club, Red Cloud’s chief shirt, and weapons from the Cheyenne breakout from nearby Fort Robinson.
