What it is
This is the Wind Cave National Park design in a set of collectible souvenir tokens for the Black Hills and Nebraska Panhandle. Each token is a small metal piece struck with park-specific artwork, made for collecting and display rather than spending.
About the design
The front carries the legend “Wind Cave National Park, Hot Springs SD, Est. 1903” wrapped around a bison standing on the prairie. The reverse shows a portrait labeled “Alvin McDonald, Cave Explorer,” recognizing the teenager whose 1890s explorations and journals first mapped much of the cave.
About the park
Wind Cave became the seventh national park in the United States on January 9, 1903, and was the first national park anywhere established to protect a cave. The park sits near Hot Springs, South Dakota, and protects both the cave below and mixed-grass prairie with a free-roaming bison herd above.
How the tokens work
Each token carries the park or forest name on one side and a related image on the other. Collectors keep them in a token album with slotted pages, the same way pressed-penny and challenge-coin collections are stored. Tokens and albums are sold separately so you can build the set one site at a time.
