What is this hiking medallion?
A die-cut enameled metal medallion for Scotts Bluff National Monument, made by L.W. Bristol Classics. The art shows a covered wagon crossing Mitchell Pass with Eagle Rock rising behind it. Eagle Rock is one of the five named formations at the monument and forms the north abutment of Mitchell Pass, the gap that thousands of Oregon, California, and Mormon Trail emigrants drove their wagons through in the 1840s and 1850s.
At 1 3/4″ die-cut with mounting nails included, it fits the standard size for hiking stick medallions and matches the other park medallions in the L.W. Bristol Classics line. The reverse has a brushed metal finish.

How to attach it
Pre-drill small holes in your walking stick where you want the medallion to sit, then press the nails through the medallion and into the holes. The medallion can be gently bent to follow the curve of a round staff. For flat surfaces like a bike frame, RV panel, or display board, flatten it out and use a strong adhesive instead.

About Eagle Rock and Scotts Bluff National Monument
Scotts Bluff National Monument is in the western Nebraska panhandle, near Gering, along the North Platte River. The bluff itself rises 800 feet above the plains. The monument was established in 1919 and protects five named rock formations: Dome Rock, Crown Rock, Sentinel Rock, Eagle Rock, and Saddle Rock.
Eagle Rock rises 4,482 feet above sea level, with its summit 258 feet above the valley floor. It guards the north side of Mitchell Pass. An 1853 emigrant called it “the most magnificent thing I ever saw.” The pass between Eagle Rock and Sentinel Rock is the gap that the Oregon Trail, California Trail, and Mormon Trail all funneled through, and the wagon ruts are still visible in places along the Oregon Trail Pathway today. The medallion design captures that scene: a covered wagon crossing the pass with Eagle Rock behind it.

About the hiking medallion tradition
