This is McGovern & Company’s oblong map scarf for the Black Hills National Forest. It is 72 inches long, 30 inches wide, and made of a soft polyester voile that drapes well and takes color cleanly. How to wear it

Around the neck. Fold the long side in half, drape it behind the neck, pull the two loose ends through the folded loop. This is the quickest tie and the one most people reach for in cooler weather.

As a wrap. Open the scarf flat across the shoulders, let the ends hang long. 72 inches is enough length to cross one end over the other at the front. Works over a dress, a tee, or a light jacket.

As a hair cover. Fold into a triangle, tie under the chin or at the nape. Voile grips well enough to stay in place on a windy day at a visitor center or trailhead.

What exactly is polyester voile?
Voile is a lightweight, loosely woven fabric with a soft drape. Polyester voile holds color well, resists wrinkles, and dries quickly after a hand wash. It is thinner than a pashmina and heavier than a silk chiffon, somewhere in between.

How do I wash it?
Hand wash in cool water with a mild detergent. Hang dry. Do not wring. A light steam or a low iron smooths out creases if needed. The print is fade-resistant but will last longer out of direct sun.

Is the map a real map of the Black Hills?
It is a vintage-style illustrated map of the Black Hills National Forest. Think old-school cartography: hand-drawn, decorative, not to scale. McGovern notes on their own product pages that “Maps are not intended for compass orientation.” It is artwork.

How long is 72 inches in wearing terms?

Does this scarf have a Passport stamp location?
The scarf itself is not a Passport item. If you are collecting cancellation stamps, the Passport to Your National Parks program covers NPS sites, including BHPFA partners Wind Cave NP, Jewel Cave NM, Scotts Bluff NM, and Agate Fossil Beds NM. National Forest visitor centers do not carry Passport stamps (the program is NPS only), so Black Hills National Forest offices will not have one.
