Description
About this sticker
A die-cut vinyl sticker shaped around a black-footed ferret in a mid-stride pose on a prairie mound, with “National Grasslands Visitor Center” set across the base. The art is flat, modern, and easy to read at a distance on a water bottle or laptop. Printed by L.W. Bristol Classics, the Bristol, Tennessee custom shop that produces many of BHPFA’s hiking medallions, pins, and patches for partner parks and forests.
The sticker is sold at the National Grasslands Visitor Center in Wall, SD, and through this online store. BHPFA operates the visitor center gift shop in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service. Proceeds go back into education programs, conservation projects, and visitor services at the Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands and other BHPFA partner sites.
Why a black-footed ferret
The Conata Basin section of Buffalo Gap National Grassland, an hour east of the Black Hills, is one of the most significant wild black-footed ferret recovery sites in North America. The species was declared extinct in 1979, then rediscovered in Meeteetse, Wyoming in 1981. A captive breeding program followed, and reintroductions started at Conata Basin in 1994. By the early 2000s the basin’s wild population had grown to more than 300 ferrets, the largest in the world at the time. The visitor center in Wall interprets that story (and the broader ecology of all 20 national grasslands) through exhibits, a film called Ferret Town, and ranger programs.
Black-footed ferrets depend almost entirely on prairie dog colonies for food and shelter. The Conata Basin’s large complex of black-tailed prairie dog towns is what made it a viable reintroduction site in the first place.

Who picks one up
Visitors who stop at the National Grasslands Visitor Center in Wall (two blocks south of Wall Drug) often grab the sticker on the way out, with or without one of the matching pins or patches. Sticker collectors filling a USFS or grasslands page in a sticker book find few commercial options for the national grasslands, which makes this one a practical pick for that slot. Black-footed ferret fans grab it as a small wearable signal of support for one of the country’s most endangered mammals.
The Small ($1.50) works as a stocking stuffer, a card insert, or a giveaway item for an education program. The Large ($4.25) is the better choice for water bottles, laptop lids, and car windows.
Frequently asked questions
What surfaces does it stick to?
The adhesive works on most smooth surfaces: glass, painted metal, plastic, powder-coated finishes, and most hard-shell luggage and laptops. Rough wood, fabric, and heavily textured plastics hold less reliably.
Is it removable?
Yes. The adhesive is designed to peel cleanly without leaving residue, especially in the first months after application. Stickers left for years in direct sun can leave some residue when removed. For a cleaner pull, peel slowly at a low angle.
Is it waterproof?
The vinyl is water-resistant and holds up to rain and to washing on water bottles. It is not rated as fully waterproof or UV-proof, so some fading is normal over time on surfaces with heavy sun exposure, like car bumpers or outdoor gear.
Why does the sticker show a ferret instead of a landscape?
The black-footed ferret is the signature species of the National Grasslands Visitor Center and the Conata Basin recovery program at Buffalo Gap National Grassland. The center’s exhibits, film, and Junior Ranger materials are built around it, so the sticker matches what the visitor center is best known for.
Can I get a Passport to Your National Parks stamp at the National Grasslands Visitor Center?
No. The Passport stamp program is run by the National Park Service, and USFS sites (including the national grasslands and the visitor center) do not participate. If you have a Passport book, the nearest BHPFA partner sites with stamps are Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Scotts Bluff National Monument, and Agate Fossil Beds National Monument.
What’s the size difference, really?
Large is roughly the footprint of a coffee-cup coaster (fits a 4″ x 4″ square; about 3 7/8 in x 3 5/8 in at the actual silhouette). Small is roughly the footprint of a postage stamp doubled (2″ x 2″ envelope). The art and adhesive are the same on both.
Does buying this support national parks and grasslands?
Yes. BHPFA is the official nonprofit partner of Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Scotts Bluff National Monument, and Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, as well as the Black Hills National Forest and Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands. Proceeds from every purchase support education programs, conservation projects, and visitor services at these sites.
