What is this?
A 356-piece mini building block kit that assembles into a Dutch-style tower windmill. Made by Impact Photographics under their Mini Block line. The finished model has rotating blades, textured exterior walls, and a tapered tower shape that stands about 8 5/8 inches tall.
The blocks are micro-sized (4mm), smaller than the standard building bricks most people grew up with and not compatible with them. That smaller scale is what allows for the realistic wall texture and the proportions on the blades. Each kit comes with a printed step-by-step instruction booklet, and Impact also offers a free MiniBlock Builder app with interactive 3D model views if you prefer building from a screen.
Windmills do not figure into the geology or wildlife of the Black Hills parks, so this one is here as a kit, not as a souvenir of a specific site. It is a good general-interest build for a kid who is moving up from larger snap-together toys, or for an adult who wants a small desk piece that takes an evening to put together.

Who is this for?
Kids 7 and up who like building. The 356-piece count is bigger than the Bat (253) and Elk sets but still finishes in one or two sittings. The micro blocks reward patience and fine motor coordination. Younger builders (7 to 9) may want an adult nearby for the blade assembly.
Adults who want a small desk build. The finished windmill is about palm-height and looks at home on a bookshelf or a desk corner. It is the kind of thing you keep once you have built it.

Are these compatible with my kid’s other building bricks?
No. These are micro-sized blocks (4mm), smaller than standard building bricks and not compatible with them. They are their own system. The smaller scale is what gets you the realistic wall texture and blade detail at this size.
Is this sturdy once it’s built?
The pieces lock together firmly. You can pick it up and move it to a shelf without it falling apart. Dust it with a dry cloth. Avoid water or chemical cleaners on the blocks.
Is this safe for younger kids?
The set is rated for ages 7 and up. It contains small parts and is a choking hazard for children under 3. Kids 7 to 9 may need some help with the smaller sections. The plastic is CPC safety certified and non-toxic.
Do the blades actually turn?
Yes. The four blades are mounted on a small axle and rotate freely. They do not power anything, but they do spin if you give them a push or set the windmill in front of a fan.
What style of windmill is this modeled after?
A classic Dutch-style tower windmill. Tapered stone tower, four sail-style blades, a peaked cap on top. Not a Great Plains farm windpump, and not a modern wind turbine.
