What it is
This magnet is cut to the outline of a bison, but the inside is not solid color. An entire Wind Cave scene is illustrated within the silhouette: rolling prairie, scattered pines, a sun on the horizon, and the cave entrance, all rendered in green and black line work.
About the design
The “scene inside a silhouette” treatment packs the park’s two halves, prairie above and cave below, into the shape of its signature animal. “Wind Cave National Park” arcs across the upper back of the bison. It reads as a single graphic from a distance and rewards a closer look.

Wind Cave became the seventh national park on January 9, 1903, the first set aside to protect a cave. The park holds most of the world’s known boxwork underground and a free-roaming bison herd on the prairie above, the two landscapes this magnet folds into one shape.
