What it is
This is the Black Hills Map Pack, both National Geographic Trails Illustrated sheets sold together: Black Hills North (Map #751) and Black Hills South (Map #238). They come shrink-wrapped as a set at a 15 percent discount over the two single maps. Each sheet prints on the same waterproof, tear-resistant synthetic paper the rest of the Trails Illustrated line uses.
Why both sheets
The Black Hills National Forest is roughly 1.25 million acres, too large to map at a useful 1:70,000 scale on a single sheet, so the series divides it into a North and a South map. The North sheet covers Spearfish Canyon, Roughlock Falls, Pactola Reservoir, Deerfield and Sheridan Lakes, and the Fort Meade Recreation Area. The South sheet covers Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Custer State Park, the Black Elk Wilderness, Black Elk Peak, and Mount Rushmore. Together they give you the whole forest.
