Description
What is this hoodie?
A heather green pullover hoodie in a soft, textured cotton fleece, made for Black Hills Parks and Forests Association on a Good Land Supply Co blank. It is cut as a relaxed, lighter pullover, which Good Land calls the Slacker, with raglan sleeves, a drawcord hood, a kangaroo pocket, and ribbed cuffs and hem. The knit has a marled, nubby texture, so the green reads heathered rather than flat.
The Jewel Cave graphic sits on the front, and the back is left plain.
What is on it
The front is printed in cream in a vintage collegiate style: Jewel Cave arched across the top, National Monument curved underneath, a bat with its wings spread in the center, EST. 1908 split on either side of the bat, and South Dakota across the bottom. The bat is a nod to the bats that hibernate in the cave, and 1908 is the year Jewel Cave became a national monument. The back has no print.

Size and fit
Cut as an adult unisex pullover with a relaxed fit. The fleece is on the lighter, softer side, more of a layer for cool mornings than a heavy winter hoodie. If you want it oversized or plan to layer, size up.
Who is this for
Anyone who wants a softer, broken-in feeling hoodie with a Jewel Cave graphic that is not the usual heavy sweatshirt. The heather green and the bat set it apart from the standard park hoodie, and it works as a gift for a caver, a bat fan, or someone who has done a tour.
Frequently asked questions
What is the bat about? The bat is a nod to the bats that hibernate in Jewel Cave. The cave is an important winter roost, and the park keeps a close eye on its bats.
Is this a pullover or a zip-up? A pullover. It goes over your head, with a kangaroo pocket at the front and a drawcord hood.
Is the back printed? No, the graphic is on the front only. The back is plain heather green.
What is it made of? A soft cotton fleece blend, 80% cotton and 20% polyester, with a textured, marled knit.
How does it fit, and is it unisex? Adult unisex, relaxed fit, sizes S through 2XL. Size up for an oversized look or to layer.
How do I wash it? Hand or machine wash cold, no bleach, and do not iron the print.
Is it warm enough for a cave tour? Jewel Cave stays cool year-round, in the upper 40s Fahrenheit, so a hoodie is a good layer underground. This one is on the lighter side, easy to tie around your waist when you come back out.
Where is Jewel Cave? In the Black Hills of South Dakota, on US-16 between Custer and Newcastle, Wyoming. It is the third-longest cave in the world, with more than 220 miles surveyed.
Does buying this support Jewel Cave National Monument? BHPFA is the official nonprofit partner of Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Scotts Bluff National Monument, and Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, as well as the Black Hills National Forest and Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands. Proceeds from every purchase support education programs, conservation projects, and visitor services at these sites.
