Description
What is the Smokey Bear plush?
Smokey Bear has been the face of wildfire prevention in the United States since 1944. This plush version is made by Education Outdoors under official license from the USDA Forest Service. It comes in two sizes: an 8-inch version that’s easy to toss in a daypack, and a 12-inch version that works better as a display piece or a gift.
Both sizes include Smokey’s trademark details: the flat-brimmed ranger hat, blue jeans, belt, and a removable plastic shovel. The construction is polyester and cotton with reinforced stitching throughout.
What’s included
- Smokey Bear plush figure with attached ranger hat, jeans, and belt
- Removable plastic shovel
- Official Smokey Bear licensed product hang tag

Who is this for?
Kids and families. The 8-inch Smokey is a good road trip companion or campfire buddy. At less than a pound, it barely adds anything to a daypack. The 12-inch version is better for younger kids who want something to hold onto, or as a bedroom display.
Outdoor educators and park interpreters. Smokey is still the most recognized wildfire prevention symbol in the country. The plush version works as a classroom mascot, campfire program prop, or interpretive display. We sell these to ranger stations and visitor centers regularly.
Gift buyers. If someone in your life loves national forests, camping, or grew up with “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires,” this is a straightforward gift that doesn’t require knowing their size or favorite color. The 12-inch version makes a better gift; the 8-inch is more of an impulse buy or stocking stuffer.
Frequently asked questions
What sizes are available?
Two: 8 inches (portable, 3.4 oz) and 12 inches (display-size, approximately 20 oz). Both have the same design details: hat, jeans, belt, and removable shovel.
Is this an officially licensed product?
Yes. This plush is made by Education Outdoors under official license from the USDA Forest Service. A portion of each sale supports wildfire education programs.
Is the shovel removable?
Yes. The ranger hat is attached to the plush, but the shovel is removable. Keep this in mind for very young children.
Is it safe for young children?
The manufacturer recommends ages 3 and up. The removable shovel is a small plastic piece, so supervise younger children during play.
How do I clean it?
Surface wash only. Do not machine wash or submerge in water.
What’s the difference between the 8″ and 12″?
Same design, different scale. The 8-inch is lighter and more portable. The 12-inch is more of a display piece or hugging-size plush (~20 oz). Both have the full outfit with hat, jeans, and shovel.
