Description

Every national forest and grassland on one sheet

This National Geographic Destination Map plots all 154 national forests and 20 national grasslands across the United States. The map side uses earth-toned shaded relief and detailed river systems to show the terrain, with each Forest Service unit shaded in blue so you can see at a glance how much public forest land surrounds a given area.

The Black Hills National Forest and the Buffalo Gap National Grassland are both on here, along with the Nebraska National Forest and the Oglala National Grassland up in the northwest corner of Nebraska. If you are planning a trip through national forest country or just want to see where the closest grassland is, this is the map for it.

What is on the back

The reverse side lists every Forest Service unit by region, with state, acreage, and square mileage. Landscape photos run across the top. A facts panel at the bottom left covers things like the oldest national forest (Shoshone, established one year after Wyoming gained statehood) and the only tropical rainforest in the system (El Yunque in Puerto Rico). A quote from Gifford Pinchot, the first chief of the U.S. Forest Service, runs across the top.

Built to last

Like all National Geographic Destination Maps, this one is printed on synthetic paper that is waterproof and tear-resistant. It folds down to 4.25 by 9.25 inches for a glovebox or day pack and opens to 37.75 by 25.5 inches for the wall.

Map scale is 1:5,200,000.
