About this pin
This is the 2026 edition of the Black Hills Moon Walk pin. The design shows a beaver swimming across a moonlit pond with the Black Hills rising behind it, under a crescent moon and a scatter of stars. It is done in navy enamel with antique gold linework, and the moon, the stars, and the Black Hills Moon Walk lettering glow in the dark once they have caught some light. A nice touch for a pin that celebrates an after-dark program.
Each season gets its own design, so the 2026 beaver is unique to this year. Round die-cut enameled metal with a standard butterfly-clutch backing.
About the Moon Walk program
The Moon Walk program has run in the Black Hills National Forest every summer since 1996. On Saturday evenings near the full moon, June through September, rangers and naturalists lead short interpretive hikes to sites across the forest. Locations change through the season, and past walks have covered fire lookout towers, beaver ponds, cave entrances, and Black Hills mining history.
