Description
What it is
This is the Jewel Cave National Monument design in the historic oval sticker series printed by Impact Photographics, one of the largest souvenir manufacturers in the U.S. The illustration is an original vintage-style drawing, not a photograph, done in the look of early-20th-century exploration art. It is sold at the Jewel Cave visitor center store and through the BHPFA online shop.
About the design
The artwork shows an explorer standing amid the underground rock of Jewel Cave, framed by the oval banner reading “Jewel Cave National Monument, Est. 1908, South Dakota, U.S.A.” The monument takes its name from the dogtooth and nailhead spar calcite crystals lining its walls, which catch the light like faceted stones. Those crystals were first noted when brothers discovered the cave in 1900.
About the site
Jewel Cave National Monument sits in the Black Hills of South Dakota on US-16, about 13 miles west of Wind Cave. It is the third-longest cave system in the world, with more than 220 miles of surveyed passages as of 2026. The National Park Service runs ranger-guided tours year-round, including the Scenic Tour and the candlelit Lantern Tour.
