Whooo would like to learn more about owls? Nocturnal by nature, owls are a mysterious group of birds that are brilliantly adapted to the dark nights of late fall and winter. Family Nature Club with naturalists from Bird Conservancy of the Rockies- Nebraska Programs will take place on Saturday, November 2nd from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor Center, located at 190276 Old Oregon Trail in Gering.  During the program we will learn about our Nebraska owls and, through a variety of hands-on activities and biofacts, investigate their keen sensory abilities and their secrets of stealth and silence.

Harmony Star Straub will teach four beaded ornament classes in the style of her traditional Lakota heritage. The classes will start at 9:00am, 10:30am, 12:30pm, and 2:00pm. Seven slots are open for each class but others are welcome to observe. Supplies will be provided. Reservations are open for 5 of the 7 slots, leaving the open 2 to first come first served on site. Reserved spots will only be held for 15 minutes and then others present will be allowed in that spot.

Have fun and express your creativity with a traditional Lakota beaded ornament! This is your chance to make a unique special holiday gift.

10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the monument’s visitor center and will host Native American performers and vendors to celebrate the surface of site. The event will kick off with remarks from monument Superintendent Kevin Tillman, followed by a performance by hoop dancer Jasmine Bell. Next Lakota Elder Mike Lammers will present traditional games and cultural stories, and then hoop dancer Jasmine Bell will perform. The final performance will be a Veterans Ceremony presented by Crazy Horse Memorial. Artisan vendors will be available throughout the day. While attendance to the event itself is free, cave tours will be available for purchase. The monument has very limited food options, so anyone wanting to attend this event all day is encouraged to bring their own lunch and use the picnic tables throughout the parking area.

Scotts Bluff National Monument will host an open house on November 13, 2024 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the monument visitor center, located at 190276 Old Oregon Trail in Gering, Nebraska.

During the open house, the park invites the public to meet our new Superintendent Jay Sturdevant, and Facilities Manager Vince Davis, and to learn about upcoming events and happenings at the monument.

Due to a maintenance project, Jewel Cave National Monument's visitor center will be closed, and tours will be suspended from Tuesday, November 19 to Thursday, November 21.
