Black Hills and Western Nebraska Educational Summer Camps

The Black Hills region offers a variety of educational summer camps designed to engage students in STEM fields, paleontology, and outdoor skills. These programs provide hands-on learning experiences that align with state education standards, fostering a deeper understanding of science and nature.

They offer three summer classes:          

  • Jr. Paleontology Program for ages 4-12.   

  • Advanced Paleontology Program for ages 10 and up

These classes are offered daily from June 1st-August 15th. Paleontological excavation techniques and bone identification are taught.


  • Atlatl Throwing Class for ages 8 and up

Sessions are offered daily. Students will learn and explore the early ways humans hunted.

South Dakota School of Mines offers 23 affordable summer day camps that cover STEM interests from coding, geology, physic, weather, health sciences, to green chemistry for middle school and high school students. 



Cost varies depending on the program, from free to $650. Most are around $200
