What is this keychain?
A single bison cut from a piece of maple veneered wood, sized for a key ring or a backpack zipper. The design is part of BHPFA’s wood ornament and keychain series, and it pairs with the matching Wind Cave Wood Bison ornament.
Wind Cave is the place to see free-roaming bison in the southern Black Hills. The herd, around 350 to 400 head today, traces back to 14 bison transferred from the Bronx Zoo in 1913, one of the first bison restoration herds in North America. The park itself was established in 1903 as the seventh national park in the United States and the first park created specifically to protect a cave. If you have stood on the prairie loop and watched a bull cross the road in front of your car, this keychain is a small way to keep that memory on your keys.

What kind of wood is this?
Maple veneered wood, 3/16″ thick, sustainably harvested in the USA. The natural grain shows through the surface, with some scorching from the laser engraving on the bison’s coat and features.
Is it painted?
No. The design is laser-cut and laser-engraved into the wood. The color comes from the natural maple and the engraving char, not from paint or stain.
How is it attached?
Two steel split rings are pre-attached: a small 0.5″ ring threaded through the bison and a larger 1″ ring for clipping to keys, a backpack zipper, or a belt loop. No assembly.
Will it survive being on a key ring every day?
