Continuing education for teachers
Each year we work with agency and museum partners to run field-based professional development for K-12 educators. These programs put you in the Black Hills and on the Great Plains, learning the science and history you can bring back to your classroom.
Our recurring educator programs
Outdoor learning and wildlife education workshop
A hands-on spring weekend for K-12 educators, run with the USDA Forest Service, South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks, and partners at the Black Hills National Forest supervisor’s office in Custer, SD. You explore wildlife, forests, and ecosystems in the field. Academic credit is available for recertification.
Teachers in the Field
A four-day, three-night field-based professional development in Badlands National Park and Buffalo Gap National Grassland, run with the South Dakota Discovery Center. You get hands-on field studies in water quality and aquatic macroinvertebrates, plus a close look at the geology of the area.
