What to Know:
Bison once nearly vanished from these grasslands, and bringing them back took decades of determined work. Join Ranger Alex for the story of the fall and rise of the Wind Cave bison herd, and how big efforts make big changes.
About the Wind Cave evening programs: These free programs are presented by National Park Service rangers at the Elk Mountain Campground amphitheater in Wind Cave National Park. Each program begins at 9:00 pm and lasts about an hour. Programs are free, open to all ages, and no registration is required. Bring a blanket or camp chair and dress for cool prairie evenings. The amphitheater is at the Elk Mountain Campground, off US Highway 385 north of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Programs may be canceled in poor weather.
