What to Know:
Colorado-based historian Kurt Skinner brings the country’s 26th president to life in a one-evening performance at the Elk Mountain Campground Amphitheater in Wind Cave National Park. A retired military officer-turned high school history teacher, Skinner is a lifelong student of Roosevelt’s legacy and has performed as the president at national parks and historic sites across the country.
In his portrayals, Skinner aims to honor and faithfully represent the man he admires, engaging audiences of all ages with humor, history and storytelling. His goal: to remind us, in Roosevelt’s own words, what has always been great about America.
Although Roosevelt never visited Wind Cave, he signed the legislation creating the park on January 9, 1903.
Free and open to all. The program begins at 7 p.m. at the Elk Mountain Campground Amphitheater. Sponsored by the Friends of Wind Cave National Park. For more information, visit www.nps.gov/wica or contact the park at (605) 745-4600.
