Spend a Saturday evening singing by the water at Bismark Lake, a small lake tucked into the pines just east of Custer. Sally Svenson, the Songbird of the Black Hills, brings her music to the Bismark Lake Day-Use Area for a campfire sing-along of original songs and the Black Hills stories behind them. Music starts at 7:30 p.m.

Getting there: Bismark Lake Campground and Day-Use Area is off Highway 16A about three miles east of Custer, in the Hell Canyon Ranger District.

About the Songbird campfire sing-alongs

The Songbird of the Black Hills is Sally Svenson, a local singer-songwriter whose original music grows out of her love for this region. At each campfire sing-along she shares the Black Hills stories behind her songs, with familiar tunes mixed in so everyone can join. Bring a camp chair or a blanket, and dress for cool mountain air after sunset. These are free, all-ages outdoor programs; check the forecast before you head out.

Each campfire sing-along is sponsored by the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association, a cooperative partner of the Forest, with the Black Hills National Forest Recreation Program.
