What to Know:
Travel back to a time when lanterns lit the way and word of mouth spread the wonder, and the story of Wind Cave was just beginning. Ranger Elizabeth traces how a little-known opening in the prairie became one of the country’s first national parks.
About the Wind Cave evening programs: These free programs are presented by National Park Service rangers at the Elk Mountain Campground amphitheater in Wind Cave National Park. Each program begins at 9:00 pm and lasts about an hour. Programs are free, open to all ages, and no registration is required. Bring a blanket or camp chair and dress for cool prairie evenings. The amphitheater is at the Elk Mountain Campground, off US Highway 385 north of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Programs may be canceled in poor weather.
