Learning the Language of Nature | Wind Cave National Park

May 9 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

What to Know:

  • Wind Cave National Park
  • May 9 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Have you ever wondered how to tell if a hawk or coyote is nearby, or when a deer is quietly slipping away, simply by listening to what the birds and other animals are saying? In this workshop you’ll learn how to tune into the communication systems of animals and begin to “read” the landscape through sound and behavior.

What We’ll Explore

  • How to recognize and understand alarm calls, movement patterns, and behavior shifts in birds and mammals
  • Techniques for interpreting wildlife communication to detect predators, prey, and hidden animals
  • Practical tips for moving quietly through nature to avoid alerting animals and become invisible
  • Ways to deepen your connection to the land by listening closely to its living voices

We’ll take a short hike (about 1 to 2 miles on easy terrain). Expect hands-on learning, opportunities for wildlife observation and photography, and stories that bring the prairie to life.

Next program: Saturday, May 9, 9 am –  1 pm Program meets at the Wind Cave National Park Visitor Center
