What to Know:
Join BHPFA and Prairie Wildlife Research for a special edition of Nature Cabin Chats: Black-footed Ferrets: The Endangered Species in Your Own Backyard
Prairie Wildlife Research Biologist Nicole Mittman will share tales about her time studying this rare and special animal!
Once thought extinct, North America’s only native ferret has made a remarkable comeback from the brink of extinction and is once again present in South Dakota at many of the prairie dog towns that they historically called home. But black-footed ferrets are far from ecologically recovered, and the road to real recovery is full of obstacles for these slinky nocturnal predators. Learn about their natural and unnatural history and how you can help the “prairie bandit” live to see another day– or night, that is! Held in the warm and welcoming Lost Cabin Taproom, Explore, learn, and connect with the natural world in a cozy setting.
