What to Know:
Meet Bark the Beaver in Rapid City. Bark is a real kind of Black Hills hero: a beaver who, after a road-painting truck leaves her with two yellow stripes, gets relocated up Willow Creek and rebuilds a wetland that brings the whole creek back to life, trout, deer, wildflowers, and all. Her story is now a picture book, and we are reading it out loud, with pizza, at the Outdoor Campus West.
It is a fitting spot, surrounded by the kind of habitat Bark works to restore. Join us for a family read-aloud of Bark the Beaver Helps the Black Hills Thrive, written by Rapid City author Eric Zimmer and illustrated by Ellen Devine, in town from Alaska for the launch weekend. The book and the matching 12-inch recycled-bottle plush will be available. Bring a copy to have it signed, or grab one there.
Free and open to everyone. Bark is an 80th anniversary project from the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association and the Black Hills Area Community Foundation, and proceeds support environmental education across the Black Hills.
