Bark the Beaver is a real kind of Black Hills story. A beaver doing her work along Rapid Creek picks up two bright yellow stripes from a road-painting truck, then a ranger moves her up to Willow Creek on the edge of the Black Elk Wilderness, where she rebuilds a whole wetland and brings back the trout, the deer, and the wildflowers. Now she has her own picture book, and we are reading it out loud, with pizza, for the whole family.

Join us at our Custer headquarters for a read-aloud of Bark the Beaver Helps the Black Hills Thrive, written by Rapid City author and historian Eric Zimmer and illustrated by Ellen Devine, who is visiting from Alaska for the launch weekend. The book and the matching 12-inch Bark plush will be on hand. Bring your copy to have it signed, or pick one up at the event.

Free and open to everyone, kids especially. Bark is an 80th anniversary project from the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association and the Black Hills Area Community Foundation, and proceeds support environmental education across the Black Hills.
