Through hands-on exploration in the field\, this course will cover a wide range of topics in ecology and the park’s history\, and see how careful attention can bring new depth to your experience of the natural world. \nWe’ll begin with a van tour through Wind Cave National Park’s grasslands and forests\, keeping an eye out for bison\, elk\, prairie dogs\, badgers\, and other wildlife. Along the way\, we’ll explore the mixed-grass prairie—one of the most diverse and threatened ecosystems in North America. \nNext\, we’ll take a short hike (about 1 to 2 miles on easy terrain) to get a closer look at the plants\, geology\, and animals.
