Participants will use a telescope provided by the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association to view planets and constellations.\n\n\n\nThis event will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the overlook along Highway 87 near the junction with Highway 385 (43°34’25.9″N 103°29’15.5″W).\n\n\nDress for the weather and bring a chair if you’d like. However\, if the weather is poor the event will be canceled.

DESCRIPTION:UPDATED 12/24/25: Due to severe storm damage\, this hike location has changed from Rankin Ridge to THE PRAIRIE VISTA TRAIL.\nMeet at the Wind Cave National Park Visitor Center at 9 am MT\, which is also the trailhead.\nJoin South Dakota Volunteer Naturalist Paul Schweitzer for a New Year’s Eve nature hike on the Prairie Vista Trail. After\, we will toast to a new year with hot cocoa! Bring your own mug\, hot chocolate will be provided. The hike is a one-mile loop\, with about 150 ft of elevation gain on uneven terrain. Dress for the weather with sturdy hiking boots. All ages welcome!
