SUMMARY:Night Sky Program | Wind Cave National Park
DESCRIPTION:Please note: This program has been postponed to Friday\, May 1\, due to inclement weather.\n\n\nAs part of International Dark Sky Week\, join a park ranger to learn about the importance of Wind Cave National Park’s night sky. Participants will use a telescope provided by the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association to view planets and constellations.\n\n\n\nThis event will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the overlook along Highway 87 near the junction with Highway 385 (43°34’25.9″N 103°29’15.5″W).\n\n\nDress for the weather and bring a chair if you’d like. However\, if the weather is poor the event will be canceled.

SUMMARY:Learning the Language of Nature | Wind Cave National Park
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wondered how to tell if a hawk or coyote is nearby\, or when a deer is quietly slipping away\, simply by listening to what the birds and other animals are saying? In this workshop you’ll learn how to tune into the communication systems of animals and begin to “read” the landscape through sound and behavior. \nWhat We’ll Explore \n\nHow to recognize and understand alarm calls\, movement patterns\, and behavior shifts in birds and mammals\nTechniques for interpreting wildlife communication to detect predators\, prey\, and hidden animals\nPractical tips for moving quietly through nature to avoid alerting animals and become invisible\nWays to deepen your connection to the land by listening closely to its living voices\n\nWe’ll take a short hike (about 1 to 2 miles on easy terrain).
