DESCRIPTION:Jeff McManus is scheduled to present his program Wagons of the Emigrant Trails on Tuesday\, June 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the wagons on the Oregon Trail Pathway\, just west of the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor Center. \nJoin Jeff\, a member of the National Stagecoach and Freight Wagon Association\, as he describes the essential features of a covered wagon\, highlighting key components such as the wagon box\, running gear\, canvas cover\, and braking systems. Visitors will learn how each part played a vital role in protecting supplies and ensuring the wagon’s durability on the trail\, while also examining how the overall weight of a fully packed wagon influenced the difficulty of travel and the number of oxen required to pull the wagon efficiently across varying terrain. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, the program will be moved inside to the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor Center Theater. \nFurther information about Scotts Bluff National Monument programs and schedules is available at the visitor center or by calling 308-436-9700.

DESCRIPTION:Park ranger and photographer Eric Grunwald tells the story of Scotts Bluff National Monument through his own images\, from the wildlife that lives here to the rugged terrain that funneled hundreds of thousands of emigrants west along the Oregon\, California\, and Mormon trails. Each photograph opens up a different side of the monument\, and Eric shares what it took to capture it. \nThe program runs Tuesday\, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the Scotts Bluff National Monument Visitor Center Theater\, just off Old Oregon Trail (State Highway 92) on the south edge of Gering.
